WHAT IS THE VISION AND MISSION OF LUA?
We believe all children have limitless joyful curiosity and capacity for reaching their potential. We believe in student choice, self-paced learning, and the power of connection and relationships. We believe that tapping into the intrinsic motivation and curiosity of every child delivers substantial growth. We believe that learning is fun and everyone belongs!
WHAT IS A CHARTER SCHOOL?
Being a charter school simply means we are a public school of choice and that we have a specific focus, ours being personalized learning. Charter schools, do not have geographical boundaries. As with all public schools, enrollment is on a first come, first serve basis with a lottery system used during the open enrollment period. There are no admissions requirements or tuition fees. LUA does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sexual orientation or disability.
WHERE DO LUA FAMILIES COME FROM?
Currently, LUA Families reside in 20 zip codes in the metro area. We have students from White Bear Lake, Mahtomedi, Saint Paul, Stillwater, Hugo, Forest Lake, Woodbury, and more. Our families have a shared vision for innovation and a desire for a small, positive community where their children are known. For this reason, they find us.
DOES LUA PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION?
Free transportation is provided to students who live within White Bear Lake district boundaries. If you reside outside of the district
boundaries you may drive your child to the nearest bus stop within the boundaries or you may provide your own transportation to school.

HOW ARE PARENTS INVOLVED IN THE LUA COMMUNITY?
Parental involvement is desired and welcome! From volunteering in the classroom to manning the popcorn booth at a family fun night...there are many opportunities at LUA to build community and support both your child and our school.
DOES LUA OFFER BEFORE AND AFTER CARE?
For many families, finding reliable before and after school care is necessary. LUA's got you covered. Level Up Club is our before and after school care program. Morning hours begin at 6:30 and afternoon hours end at 5:30. Level Up Club is available for all students K-8.
DOES LUA HAVE A HOT LUNCH PROGRAM?
LUA provides breakfast and hot lunch with gluten-free and dairy-free options. Students may also choose to bring lunch from home.
Parents who would like to have lunch with their child must make arrangements with the office.
WHAT IS INTENTIONAL USE OF TECHNOLOGY?
At Level Up Academy we intentionally use technology to personalize learning. For example, all students have access to the same online gaming platforms. While it may look like all students are playing the same game, the content they are accessing is personalized to their learning level and is a part of their learning plan. When students learn at a level that is right for them,
engagement and growth are inevitable!
WHAT IS PHYSICAL EDUCATION LIKE AT LUA?
Physical Education is a foundational part of childhood development and personal well-being. This is why our students participate in two hour-long PE classes a week. In addition to formal PE classes, all students have a 30-minute daily recess time supervised by teachers along with brain-breaks both inside and outside of the classroom throughout the day.
WILL MY CHILD LEARN HOW TO CODE?
All of our students grades K-8 learn computer programming in the classroom and STEAM lab as a part of their regular curriculum! Students will learning both block and written code as well as other components of computer science: digital literacy, digital citizenship, robotics. The foundation of our computer science program is computational thinking!
DOES LUA HAVE A WAITING LIST?
When grade levels become filled, applications received during Open Enrollment will be placed in a lottery to determine their place on the waiting list for any available openings.
